Sophia Marcus is an interdisciplinary artist, and MCAD MFA candidate, who was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, but spent her college years in rural NW Iowa. Through some pseudo-holy experience she's fallen in love with the agricultural midlands, and is always yearning for them. Her undergraduate studies in Environmental Science and Biology compel her to themes of systems ecology, the Anthropocene, the rural, and the way we interact with, and relate to the land. These themes are realized through junky scene-building, 3D collage, and loosely-defined painting – making installations with ecosystems of stuff. She spends her time collecting garbage, pinning insects, and wondering about the earthworms that move beneath your feet – which, if you’re seeing in the Midwest, are probably invasive.
